Just like writing, I love fitness, too!
I also love decorating, crafting, shopping for different projects, and just being creative with anything. It’s so exciting to see something transition into a finished product. And my home workout space was a labor of love.
My husband and I have an extra section space in our garage. When he owned a motorcycle—that’s where he parked it. And a few weeks ago, I had the idea to turn it into my workout space. I’m always looking for projects to do around our house—it’s a hobby that I can’t resist. I love DIY projects. You can find any ideas to create on Pinterest.
I’m a runner, too, but I also like strength and HIIT training. And due to COVID-19 lingering for the past year, I’ve felt much more comfortable strength training from home.
I finished this project within a few days. Yes, that’s right, a few days. Because when I’m laser-focused on something, I like to get it done as soon as possible. However, it’s not a race—that’s just my A-type personality. You can take your time and do it at your pace. Whatever makes you feel comfortable.
When I decide to start a project, I’m like a bloodhound for bargains. One might say, “I’m bougie on a budget.” And you can create beautifully on a budget.
Here’s how I created my home workout space.
Space
I made sure that the space I chose would hold all of the things I wanted to use in my workouts: free weights, kettlebells, jump rope, resistance bands, yoga ball, yoga mats, yoga blocks, my Booty Sprout, scale, ab roller, slam ball, exercise hula hoop, etc. Also, I measured my space because I knew I wanted a bench and a nine-box organizer.
But there’s a caveat to this, the space size is relatively small—but a little space goes a long way. The trick is to make your space appear bigger once you set up all of your decor and equipment. Also, I believe in the saying, “less is more.” I prefer my space not to look cluttered and busy. Rather a clean and chic look.
Woodwork
I’m fortunate to have a co-worker who makes wood as a hobby. So, he made my wooden bench, nine-box organizer, yoga mat wall holder, and resistance band wall holder.
All for a super low price! I sent him photos of what I wanted from Pinterest and viola! If you know a handy person who makes wood—I’d definitely have them create something for you.
Decor
Decorating is the fun part! When everything comes together visually—that’s when I fall in love with my projects. Make sure you come up with your theme. I’m a girlie girl, and I love pink. So I knew I wanted a chic space with pops of pink and light/soft colors. I went for blush pink and some darker shades of pink, along with pops of teal. And other girlie colors, too.
My affordable go-to stores were Home Goods, TJ Maxx, and Amazon. You can pretty much find anything on Amazon, but also, Home Goods and TJ Max are a gold mine for the cutest workout equipment. For my flooring, I used black gym mats that I also found at Home Goods. And if you want good quality and cute resistance bands, I’m in love with my leopard print body band and pink body band.
I hope this helps and gives you some inspiration and ideas to create the space that you love, too. And keep in mind, you don’t have to do it all at once. Take your time and create a space that you’re going to be happy with, without feeling rushed or pressured. Remember, these types of projects should be fun!
