March 19, 2020, marked the first day of spring. Though I didn’t anticipate going into a new season with the discovery of COVID-19 across the world, my sincere prayers are with the people of our nation.
For comfort, I let this scripture have a resting place in my heart. “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” (Isaiah 46:4, New International Version)
Also, to brighten my mood, I’m thinking of springtime being here, it’s my favorite season. Maybe you could use a few sprinkles of joy, fun, and laughter in your life right now considering our Coronavirus crises.
(If the answer is yes and you love spring too—keep reading!)
There’s just something about spring that’s nostalgic. Maybe it’s the colorful flowers that bloom, the sun peeking brightly through the clouds, the sight of butterflies fluttering through the air, the sound of bumblebees buzzing, or the smell of a freshly mowed lawn. Or just maybe it’s the beach trips that you plan with your family, and you can’t wait to feel the sand between your toes again, or the vibrant spring fashion that you can’t wait to feel against your skin. Whatever it is, take it all in—because spring is here! It’s time to kick the winter blues with a sunnier season.
There are so many things I love about spring, but here are a few of my favorites that rejuvenate me. Maybe you’ll find these things helpful and uplifting, too.
Spring cleaning: This is huge for me. I love to clean, and even more so, I like being clutter-free. It frustrates me to have unnecessary junk in my home that I don’t need or haven’t used in a decade. If this resonates with you, what are you waiting for, friend? Purge that stuff! Now is the time to get your house, closet, basement, attic, or whatever you’ve been putting off your to-do-lift done (if you have extra time to spare). And if spring cleaning gives you anxiety, make a doable checklist that you can accomplish your tasks in stages. Martha Stewart offers a sensible to-do list here. It doesn’t mean you have to do everything in a day. Remember, it’s a process. Clutter is stressful for the brain. Do yourself a favor and de-stress.
Outdoor activities: I love being outside during spring. Taking in all of the beautiful things that are blooming and the weather is perfect. There are endless things to enjoy during this time of year outside (even during this pandemic). Take a stroll around your neighborhood or bring out your sneakers from the closet and go for a run. Grab some sidewalk chalk and introduce your kids to some unique art. Have them draw pictures of what they see or write motivational quotes. If you’re a gardener, get your hands dirty and plant some beautiful flowers, watermelons, spices, or whatever your heart desires. If you have a porch, pour yourself a glass of sweet tea or your beverage of choice and sit on your porch and enjoy the scenery. If you have a back yard pool or grill, take a dip in your pool, and fire up the grill with your family and enjoy some mouth-watering BBQ.
Wardrobe change: If you know me personally, you know this makes my heart happy, and I love hanging out in my closet. There’s no time like the present to walk into your closet and transition into your spring attire. Let the winter clothes go—it’s time. Now is the time to start bringing out your lightweight blouses & shirts, graphic tees, dresses, jumpsuits, shorts, and the pieces of clothing that are your absolute favorites. If you want to make this even more fun, schedule a virtual cocktails and conversations or fun and fashion hour with your girlfriends, and discuss the latest fashion trends for the season.
Though you may be teleworking from home or forced to stay at home during this quarantine, there are lots of creative things you can do from the comfort of your own home this beautiful spring!
